Admired from afar

So whenever we go to Publix (the grocery store), Edee loves to point and look at the balloons. Everytime we go go by one she always points it out and follows it as we go past. So on her birthday, we thought we would indulge her and get her a balloon of her choice at the Publix. So we get to the store and Beth and I hold out 4 different balloon choices for her, she grabs 2 of them: one that says 'birthday girl' and another that has happy birthday on it along with guns, deer, bass, and fishing poles on it. So we went to a tie-breaker between the two (how many balloons does a one year old need?) and Edee chose the 'birthday girl' balloon over the 'lets kill animals on your birthday balloon'. So I had the balloon blown-up, and then met back up with Beth and Edee.

Upon seeing her new balloon Edee did what she always does points and looks intently at the balloon. However, she was quite wary upon closer inspection, to the point where she did not want to be close to the balloon and would cling to Beth as if she were afraid of the balloon. We decided to buy the balloon despite Edee's newly found trepidation of balloons thinking that on her own turf she would enjoy the balloon. How foolish Beth and I were to think such things, Edee and the balloon at home resulted in the same fate: Edee clinging to Beth in fear. This situation was finally resolved by me putting the balloon in the closet (out of sight, out of mind). The facts are the facts: balloons are scary. -- Shüg
